Joy Neville Visit

Joy Neville, a former Ireland rugby international, has been named world rugby referee of the year at an awards ceremony in Monaco.

Joy Neville became the first woman in history to take charge of a men’s rugby international when she refereed Denmark v Norway in October. She was part of the Ireland women’s squad which completed a Six Nations grand slam before she became a referee.

She took time out of her very busy schedule to pay a visit to the school and speak to the Under 16 girls rugby team.

Rugby players honoured.

Congratulations to Joey Conway and Dylan Reeves-Wasik who were both selected on the Munster Schools Rugby team of the tournament for the Senior Cup. The boys pictured after representing their provinces at under 19 level were selected on the back of excellent performances in the cup. Congratulations lads.

Breakfast Morning

On the 22nd of December Padraig 5 hosted a breakfast morning for all fifth and sixth year students in aid of Novas. This is a voluntary organisation which works with disadvantaged children, adults and families especially those who are in danger of becoming homeless or are presently homeless in the Limerick area.

In preparation for this, we contacted Jim Flavin Butchers and SuperValu who generously donated food and drinks to us to serve to the students and teachers who helped this worthy cause by taking part in the breakfast morning. The sausages, pudding and rolls were then prepared by Padraig 5 members, Ms.Hanley and her Home Economics classes.

The day had a Christmas theme including a colours day, with students and staff wearing Christmas jumpers. We were also entertained by Christmas music throughout the morning. We even had a special visit from Santa and his elves.

We would like to thank Chis O’Connor, a Limerick Novas representative who visited during the course of the breakfast morning to make us all aware of the amazing work that this organisation carries out for the homeless and people in need in the area.

In total €360 was raised for an amazing cause. We would like to thank all the fifth and sixth year students, as well as the teachers, for donating €2 each to this deserving charity.

Bowen Shield Semi Final update.

Best of luck to the Under 18s in the Bowen Shield Semi Final on Friday. An excellent season so far in the league section has earned the team a home semi against Bandon Grammar. The match will take place on Friday at 2:30 in the school. The team featuring most of last years Junior Cup semi finalists hope to go one better this year but face tough opposition in Bandon. All support is very welcome.

Can we please remind parents and supporters that we are unable to provide car parking at the rear of the school. The avenue is for pedestrian access only.
