Taster Day In Shannon College Of Hotel Management

Taster Day In Shannon College Of Hotel Management

Last Monday seven of our transition year students attended a taster day in Shannon College Of Hotel Management It was a great experience that really opened our eyes to the jobs available within the hotel industry.

We got an insight into three of the many areas that students study while attending college. We began in the kitchen with the head chef where we learned how to ice cupcakes, they also explained to us the culinary modules that the students carry out during their five year college course. The college teaching kitchen also operates as a fully functioning restaurant four days a week, which gives the students great experience in the running of the kitchen and front of house.

We then spent an hour with the college librarian who explained to us the importance of reliability when using the internet for researching. Lastly we learnt some very useful life skills of carrying plates and trays properly and barista skills which will be very useful in finding a part time job in the future.

Before we headed back to school we had a certificate presentation with our schools. I for one really enjoyed the day out and for somebody who is interested in this area of work I found it to be very enjoyable and informative.
