Support your Schools Fashion Show Fundraiser

As the schools main fundraiser for 2015 we are hoping that the whole school community will come out in support of our Fashion Show on Thursday March 26th. The show is shaping up to be a great success and promises to be a night full of glitz and glamour with an opportunity to win excellent prizes including a 42” flat screen TV, a Tablet Computer, an overnight stay in the luxurious Savoy Hotel including breakfast, A Digital Camera, Afternoon tea at the Savoy Hotel and many more. The show will commence at 7:30pm where guests will be treated to a cheese and wine reception and goodie bags sponsored by Glenstal Foods, Supervalu and Lloyds Pharmacy in the Parkway Shopping Centre.

Students will be joined by models from the Hilary Thompson Modelling Agency as they showcase some of Limerick’s hottest new Spring/Summer collections.  Some of the top stores include Frocks n Frills, Camden Square, Tippe Canoe, Sinead’s Boutique, Number 15, Gretta Gibbs, Virginijias, Stitch aswell as designers Marion Murphy Cooney, Fiona Whyte and Caroline Mitchell.  Shoes will be by Serendipity while hair and make-up will be by Catherine Hickey.

Once again, this year’s event is generously supported by local fashion houses and businesses.  All proceeds will be used for the benefit of present and future generations of Castletroy College students. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

Transition Year Business update.

As part of our Transition Year Business option, Fionn 4 invited a number of speaker’s from different industries in the local area to come into the classroom and share their knowledge and skills with the Business students from different year groups.

Our class spilt up into different groups such as the food/retail industry, medical industry, sports/recreational industry, entertainment and I.C.T industry. We then wrote up a number of questions and may contact with guest speakers from each industry and invited them into our school to enlighten students with information about their own experience in their businesses such as Advertising, Products, Social Media, Marketing, Location etc. At the end of this event we would hope that the business students from different groups would have a greater knowledge and understanding in each of the sectors. We would like to thank our guest speakers from our local community Owen Silke, Stationary ‘One stop shop’,  Garry Lowe ‘whizzkids’, Sharon Le Gear, ‘Photographer’, Ken Boland Food School Company and Conor Sheehan entertainment. We would also like to thank our Business teacher Ms. McGrath for helping us organise this very successful project as we really enjoyed it.

Patrick Silke, Nicole Kearns, Eimear Condon, Niamh Hourigan and Cliodhna Mc Carthy.

TY Business Trip

On the 21st of February 2013 Deirdre 4 went on an industry visit to Dromoland Castle and The Strand Hotel. Their main objective was to compare and contrast two hotels in our area. Some of the categories studied by our class included Advertising, Recruitment, Sales & Marketing, Facilities, Tourism etc. Prior to this visit we compiled a list of questions and e-mailed them to the hotels. Deirdre 4 class group were given a guided tour of the castle and the hotel followed by a detailed question and answer session.

We would like to sincerely thank both hotels for their hospitality and their warm welcome. We look forward to visiting your hotel in the near future. This trip was a great success and many thanks to Ms.McGrath and Ms.Clancy for organising this successful Business trip.

Young Scientist Exhibition 2013

This year’s BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition was a fantastic event. There was a record number of entries: 1789 projects entered and only 550 projects were selected to be displayed at the RDS last week. We are very proud of our students for getting that far. All of our students worked exceptionally hard on their projects and finalising report books over the Christmas holidays. The hard work paid off with Ciarán O’Mara winning The Bell Labs Award and coming 2nd in the Intermediate Individual Technology Category. Gráinne O’Mahoney, Kate O’Brien and Siobhán Brady won The Lilly Award for chemistry. Congratulations to you all, you represented your school very well.
