The Neat Streets Team

by joeshortt

Congratulations to our newly formed ‘Neat Streets Team’ in conjunction with an Taisce and the Green-schools programme.

Our school grounds and our school buildings are  maintained to  very high standards , with thanks to our great caretaking team Riche  and Cathy Quinn along with our great team of afterschool caretaking staff. Also so many members of our school community take great pride in keeping our school clean and green. Each day the school building is home to over 1300 school community members. As part of a review, our Neat streets team will survey the school grounds after assemblies and break times to highlight the cleanest areas and also to highlight on what areas we could improve .

You may get a glimpse of the team as they survey our school grounds over the next few months The team will also give you feedback at assembly times ,over the intercom ,  in our school newsletter and in our school Magazine.Be part of the Neat streets programme and enjoy keeping Castletroy College clean and green. Tús Glas Leath Na hoibre (A green start is half the battle)

The Neat Streets programme is an anti-litter & waste campaign  run within secondary schools across the Republic of Ireland. The programme is designed to facilitate and develop leadership, project management, citizenship and communication skills among students, through the design and implementation of an anti-litter and waste campaign. Participating schools are encouraged to initially assess and measure litter and waste levels and policy within the school and then work to reduce litter and waste issues. They are also asked to engage the wider community in implementing a litter management plan for the local area.

Each school will develop a Neat Streets model that best suits its own circumstances, as schools will identify different priorities and set specific targets following initial investigations. Participating students should be given flexibility to design a project they feel will be most effective in reaching their schoolmates and also engaging the wider community, with novel and creative ideas encouraged.

The links on this page provide information and ideas on how to develop your Neat Streets programme and the Neat Streets Guide (right hand side of this page) should be referred to over the duration of the project.
