Rassie Erasmus and Richie Quinn help Castletroy College raise their 6th Green Flag
On Monday the 29th of June we had a lovely ceremony to celebrate receiving our 6th Green Flag, which now hangs proudly at the entrance of our school. In attendance were Staff and students representing each year group. Students PJ Allen and Niall McSweeney from the Green – Schools committee welcomed Rassie Erasmus, the Director of Munster Rugby whom we were privileged to have to help raise our Green Flag.
To open the ceremony Mr James Collins, one of our Deputy Principals, welcomed everyone and praised the work done in the school to protect the environment. This was followed by a short speech from student Cillian Toland from our Neat streets team, who described green initiatives undertaken in the school and thanked everyone in Irish for their contribution. Cillian then invited Richie and Cathy Quinn and Rassie Erasmus to raise the Green Flag.
Mr Erasmus spoke about the contrast in environmental awareness between South Africa and Ireland and praised the International Green Schools Programme.
Following that a prayer for Castletroy College was read by Ms Claire Madigan and First year Orlaith O’Byrne Cassidy from the Green – Schools Committee.
Ms Brenda Cribbin concluded our ceremony with some inspiring words and thanked Mr Erasmus and thanked his two daughters Nikki and Carli and wished him and the Munster team the very best in the future. A special thank you was also given to all staff, especially Ms Mairead Doyle, Ms ClaireMadigan, Our Principal, Mr Padraig Flanagan and our Deputy Principals, Mr James Collins, Ms Majella Hanrahan and Mr Kieran Flannery.
Celebrations continued with tea and scones as a thank you for all involved.
