Last week, seven TY students from Castletroy College attended a three day work experience with Garda Eoin Barrett in Henry Street Garda station.
We began on Monday with introductions and a presentation about the work of An Garda Síochanna. Monday was a fun filled day with a visit from the Canine Unit loved by all and a virtual reality experience simulating a car crash.
On our second day we had a visit from the Armed response unit, who informed us of the dangers of the job and how they protect themselves.
On Wednesday we left the station and headed out to the Garda College in Templemore. We toured the college and also got an opportunity to talk to the trainees and watch some of their self defense classes.
I thoroughly enjoyed my three days work experience and it gave me a great insight into the day to day workings of a guard.
