Spanish Sensation - October 11th 2019

On Friday the 11th of October Spanish Day was celebrated at Castletroy College. It is celebrated usually on 12th October each year to commemorate when Christopher Columbus first set foot in the Americas in 1492. Ms Ventura and the Spanish department in the school organised many fun activities for staff and students to celebrate the day.

Posters were displayed all over the school promoting and informing the student body about this event. Information about famous Spanish people was broadcasted on the intercom. For example details of Christopher Columbus achievements and experiences which was insightful and interesting for all students.

TY and 1st Year students were very lucky to meet Jeovany Cuesta from La Havana, Cuba, who is a famous Salsa dancer. He moved to Europe and has spent most of his time since dancing and teaching salsa in Ireland. This was held in the Senior GPA. It was educational, fun and it was interesting to learn about a different culture and perspective on dancing.

A big thanks to Ms Ventura for all her hard work coordinating the event to make Spanish Day fun and successful, and a massive thanks to her Spanish class for all their hard work.
