High Intensity Interval Training, HIIT
High Intensity Interval Training, HIIT, is a circuit based type of exercising that focuses on the participant exerting all of their effort and then resting for a short period. The idea is that giving your body a short burst of exercise is more effective and more importantly efficient than an hour jogging or lazily walking. This form of exercise is said to be key when it comes to focusing on burning fat and increasing your metabolism.
Here in Castletroy college Ms Angela Martin has been running HIIT classes since 2017. She began these classes as a way to introduce exercise into students and teachers weekly routine. It is a circuit based class that varies between body weight exercises like push ups and planks and cardios exercises such as burpees and jumping jacks. Her class runs once a week at Monday lunch time in the P.E hall and she welcomes all new members, students and teachers alike.
These HIIT classes are an excellent addition to our wide variety of extracurricular activities on offer in our school, not only does it keep our students and teachers fit and healthy but it also a fun positive community to be part of.
